An Act of Dignity: Yevhen Korinets Yevhen Korinets is a soldier from Chernyakhiv (Zhytomyr Oblast), a man who has proven through his life that dignity is not just a word, but a daily choice. Before the full-scale war, Yevhen worked as a rehabilitation specialist at the Chernyakhiv Rehabilitation Center, helping people recover from injuries and supporting those who were struggling. But when Ukraine was in danger, he could not stand idly by and stepped up to defend his homeland. On the front lines, Yevhen proved himself to be a strong, courageous, and devoted comrade. During one combat mission, his unit came under heavy fire. In that dangerous moment, with explosions ringing out all around and chaos reigning, he did not lose his humanity or his composure. Risking his own life, he helped other soldiers get out of the line of fire and tended to the wounded. Yevhen himself was seriously wounded and lost his lower limb, but even after that, he remained an example of resilience and strength of spirit. For his courage and self-sacrifice, Yevhen Korinets was awarded the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine’s “For Wounds” (Severe) medal. For the residents of Chernyakhiv, he became a symbol of true bravery—a man who did not shy away from hardship but, on the contrary, stood up to defend his people. His act of dignity lies not only in his military service or his award. Yevhen’s greatest strength lies in his humanity. Before the war, he was a person who saved and rehabilitated people as a physical therapist, and during the war, he defended them with a weapon in his hands. It is precisely such people who demonstrate that true dignity is born of loyalty to one’s principles, love for Ukraine, and a willingness to fight for it even at the cost of one’s own health. Yevhen Korinets’ story is one of courage, honor, and the indomitable Ukrainian spirit. It reminds everyone that heroes live among us, and it is thanks to people like him that Ukraine continues to stand and fight for its future.
