The year 2022 was a year of severe trials for every Ukrainian—a year of pain, loss, and suffering. Yet at the same time, it was a time when humanity, mutual support, and dignity shone through with particular brilliance. Among those who did not stand idly by from the very first days of the full-scale invasion were the young people and their mentors at the Don Bosco Youth Center. Their story is a truly moving example of strength of spirit and compassion. In the early days of the war, when confusion and anxiety reigned, the young men and women quickly came together to help others. Without waiting for instructions, they began organizing humanitarian aid drives for those facing difficult circumstances. The young people collected food, hygiene products, medicines, warm clothing, and everything necessary for civilians who had been left without the bare essentials. Particularly touching were the moments when the city’s residents themselves brought aid—some shared their last bag of grains, others brought children’s clothing, and still others simply came to help sort items into boxes. Young volunteers sorted the aid, packed it into boxes, and delivered them to families, displaced persons, and the elderly. For many, this was not just a job, but a way to support one another and not lose faith in goodness. During those days, the youth of the youth center became a true pillar of support for the community. They showed that dignity is not found in grand words, but in simple daily actions—in the willingness to help, support, and be there when it is needed most. Their joint efforts became a symbol of unity and inner strength. It is thanks to people like them that, even in the darkest times, a light of hope shines through, along with the belief that good will surely prevail and that Ukraine will have a peaceful and strong future.
